Looking Down South in the Sun

Looking Down South in the Sun
27 cm (w) x 18 cm (h), pastels on acid-free coloured-ground ‘Canson’ paper.
Date produced: 2000-2004 (while living at North Brighton)

Drawn on-site, from the shade of the Somerton Park Surf Rescue Club building. It’s a beautiful sunny day, and the water is calm. The white sounds of small waves are occasionally mixed with the happy screams of children playing on the beach.

With this small pastel, I am trying to capture a relationship of colours and tones that express the sunlight and the sense of spectacle before me.
