Shadows on the Beach

Shadows on the Beach
37 cm (w) x 27.5 cm (h), conté and pastels on acid-free coloured-ground ‘Canson’ paper.
Date produced: 2000-2004 (while living at North Brighton)

This was produced from my short-term memory and a quick sketch, after being on the beach near home, at sunset.

The shadows were from my wife and I, in red weakening sunlight, just before sunset. The spectacle felt very special, just for us. Actually, what I didn’t include in the drawing but were quite humorous to look at live were the shadows of our walking feet. It looked like we were wearing massive funky platform shoes with their vertical movements somewhat exaggerated.
