55 cm (w) x 38.5 cm (h), conté and pastels on acid-free coloured-ground ‘Canson’ paper. Date produced: July 1999
Drawn on-site at Hallett Cove in South Australia. I used to live at Christies Beach, which is further south from Hallett Cove, away from the city. I often travelled past these lovely rolling hills, and thought that they would be an interesting subject. I had to sit on the edge of a very busy roadway to get this view. The roadway with speeding noisy cars tended to detract from the feeling of the rolling countryside that these hills suggested. Housing developments have also started to encroach on these hills, so I am glad that I spent some time enjoying them before they were gone. I have used grids to help convey the forms within the land, and the plane-like feeling within the sky. The grasses in the foreground were gently moving in waves to the breezes.
