Inspiration for this piece came from a newspaper article about a fine craftsman, and also reflecting on a concept described by Vincent van Gogh, where colouring, simplification and symbolism can be used to enhance expression of character and ideas.

I have attempted to use a symbolic representation of inspiration itself (being a necessary part of any good craftsperson or artisan), placed between an open, lively universe of mystery, and one of knowledge and engineering.
