Outback in the Sun

Outback in the Sun
65.5 cm (w) x 30.5cm, oil paints over acrylic paints, on stretched paper.

This was produced inside my studio at home, to express the light and heat and ‘openness’ of the outback, from my current understanding of colour, and using several elements seen within some of Fred Williams’s “Pilbara Series” paintings and drawings.

I enjoyed seeing that series exhibited at the Art Gallery of South Australia, but I also felt that many of Fred Williams’s paintings in that series lacked a powerful direct sense of sunlight, something felt by me to be an important element of any ‘outback’ experience.
