640 pixels (w) x 480 pixels (h), computer painting, using Electronic Arts Deluxe Paint V and Cloantos Personal Paint 4 on an Amiga 1200 computer. Date produced: 28th June 1995
This image is trying to express the clear exotic sounds of beautiful bird-calls in the early night, being heard at home - from a Willy Wag-tail, and a Blackbird. On rare occasions, Magpies will warble beautifully very late at night. Their warble will also have a nice echo, as if it is being produced within a large gorge, rather than on telephone wires high above a suburban street.
I enjoy trying to express senses other than vision, such as sounds or smells, through combinations of visual elements. Its an exciting form of abstraction, reaching deeper into my imagination and feelings perhaps than a visual record. Certainly, in most of my paintings and drawings, Im trying to express non-visual elements as well as a visually perceived record (usually the visually perceived record remains dominant however).
I like using computer graphics programs for creating abstract images. They allow for a lot of experimentation, they virtually have an unlimited number of available colours and backgrounds, they usually allow me to create images very quickly, they allow me opportunities to save various states of image developments, and they don't use physical materials, so I can be very free with the experiments that I attempt. They can also combine image-making with scanned photographs, and image processing.
