38 cm (w) x 57 cm (h), conté on brown paper. Date produced: March 1999
These small olive tree trunks rose from the footpath area of a street that rises over a little hill and then down to the beach. The trunks have lovely, interesting fluid forms that speak of age, grace, and a silent but strong restless power. They also suggest forms that are made up of several tubes under a tight form-hugging skin.
I deliberately tried to draw these forms from quite close, to hopefully get a good sense of presence, through the strong perspective within the radiating vertical trunks. The shadows of the trunks seemed to reflect or complement the radiating forms of the trunks.
