Drawn on-site in Repton Road, Somerton Park, near my home (at that time) at North Brighton. Repton Road is lined on both sides with mature Weeping Myrtle trees. I find the forms within the trunks and main boughs of these trees (and in most trees) to be very interesting and quite figurative in nature. All of the trunks of the weeping myrtles in this street are quite different, and unique. Interestingly, the weeping myrtle trunks appear to be made up from collections of tubes, though I know that if I was to cut through the trunk, it wouldn't really show this.
I found that cross-sectional contour lines (that were felt or imagined using my excellent stereoscopic vision and imagination looking at the real forms) help to define the forms, and indicate the orientation of the various surfaces of the tree trunk and major boughs.
