53 cm (w) x 36.5 cm (h), blue biro on cartridge paper.Drawn directly from my flat at West Beach. This was a serious attempt at trying to record everything that I could see within my vision, while looking at a fixed point (near the centre of this drawing). This was actually the second attempt made of this scene, as the first one didnt include enough peripheral vision, and there wasnt enough space on the piece of paper I used to add enough peripheral vision. It is amazing how wide an angle our vision has (nearly 180 degrees left to right). So with this version, I kept everything small to try and fit it all onto the sheet it just fitted! The result tends to look like a fish-eye lens photograph, and makes the room look bigger than it really was. I enjoyed the intellectual challenge and discipline required to manage the translation of a very wide-angled curved space onto a flat piece of paper. I particularly like the curving that takes place throughout the drawing, and the range of bits and pieces that I can recognise in the drawing, even after having drawn this almost 40 years ago. |
