56 cm (w) x 37.5 cm (h), conté on cartridge paper. Date produced: 1989
Drawn directly from life, probably from a seven-minute pose. It was an interesting and unusual view of the body’s forms. I remember needing to check the accuracy of the resulting shapes, because several body parts (such as the model’s face) were being seen from unusual angles.
I found that sanguine conté sticks were excellent for drawing quickly, accurately, and sensitively. I found the sanguine conté sticks felt better to draw with than the black and bistre coloured conté sticks. I remember being introduced to drawing using sanguine conté sticks during my Art classes when I was in high school, and I remember feeling a real ‘wow’ from their smell and feel. They felt like they were real artist materials.
