640 pixels (w) x 480 pixels (h), computer painting, using Electronic Arts Deluxe Paint V and Cloantos Personal Paint 4 on an Amiga 1200 computer. Date produced: 28th June 1995
This image is trying to express the clear exotic sounds of beautiful bird-calls in the early night, being heard at home from a Willy Wag-tail, and a Blackbird. On rare occasions, Magpies will warble beautifully very late at night. Their warbles, amazingly, also have a nice echo, as if being produced within a large gorge, rather than from on telephone wires high above a suburban street. I enjoy trying to express senses other than vision, such as sounds or smells, through combinations of visual elements. It is an exciting form of abstraction, reaching deeper into my imagination and feelings perhaps than a visual record. Certainly, in many of my paintings and drawings, I am often trying to express some non-visual elements as well as a visually perceived record (usually the visually perceived record is dominant however).
