320 x 352 pixels, created using a Vic-20 computer. This moire pattern was created using 2 layers of scans of radiating lines, drawn using the special ‘exclusive-or’ plotting. The moire patterns shown on this page were all created using a system of up to 2 layers of scans of radiating lines, drawn using the special ‘exclusive-or’ plotting. The lines of the scans could be drawn inside outer-shapes of circles, squares, or squares at a rotated angle. The lengths of lines used for the scans of radiating lines could be changed before the scans were drawn (setting the dimensions of the outer shapes). The two scans could be offset both horizontally or vertically (more typical). It is amazing how the system of drawing sets of ‘exclusive-or’ lines over the top of each other with slight changes in the way they are drawn results in a myriad of subtle patterns and changes in tonal density. I am reminded of the intricate detail that can be found within Mandelbrot images. All of these Moire Pattern images actually took a long time to render on the Vic-20 - typically several hours each. The Vic-20 computer was a reliable computer, but it took a while to work through so many machine-code drawn lines, set up though through a BASIC program. Changes in a small set of parameters led to quite different results. There was a need for a lot of trial and error (and patience), to find special results. |
