Sunlit Church, Glenelg

Sunlit Church, Glenelg
50 cm (w) x 65.5 cm (h), oil paints on cotton canvas.
Date produced: 1988 - 1992

The main church shown here sits halfway up Jetty Road, Glenelg, the main street of Glenelg. At the time (about 1990), I was living at the beach end of Jetty Road, in a flat above “Mama Carmela’s Pizza shop”. The tower of the church looked magnificent in the sun, against the clear blue sky. It has since been repainted in a more ‘historical’ colour scheme, but I think it looked more inspiring when just painted all the one colour - a pale pinky apricot colour.
