With this image/design, I am trying to express the enjoyment and spectacles of being on the banks of Lake Albert (near the Coorong in South Australia). Its an excellent place for watching majestic clouds over vast expanses of fresh water, seeing the pale blue Mount Lofty mountain range on the other side of Lake Alexandrina, and the lush lakeside banks nearby.
My wife and I had been going to Meningie on Lake Albert every few months or so. It was our favourite spot to go to to get away to somewhere relaxing and recharging. The whole area changed dramatically during the 6 years after 2005, with a drought and poor management. The lake became mostly a dry lake bottom, with a terrible smell from the large area of exposed lake bottom. The many pelicans that lived on the lake left.
This is one of many experiments produced on my computer using a small number of interacting rectangles of colour gradients. I made use of a bright yellow border to suggest the warm sunlight that was throughout the real scenery - and it is a strategy that I have used in some of my oil paintings and pastels from about 35 years ago. The strip of pinky purple at the bottom was something that I somehow felt like adding for the expression of the area. After I saw it a few times, I realised that it is also suggestive of The Pink Lake that is nearby.
