This was drawn over about 2 hours of sessions, broken up into 20 minute blocks. The model here may look relaxed, but just about all poses (even those where the model is lying down) are difficult to hold over a long period of time. Small pains are amplified, muscles get extremely tired. After taking a break, the models have to be instructed as to exactly how their poses were before taking the break. Chalk is often used to mark the positions of major body parts on underlying surfaces.

I enjoyed using this combination of ‘sanguine’ (dark blood red) coloured conté on brown paper. I used a little light pink conté to provide some highlights, and increase the dynamic range of the drawing just a little.
