Drawn on-site, in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. This huge River Gum tree grows near the little creek running through the gardens. Its trunk is massive. I drew this to record the magnificent tree, but also to express an idea - of this huge organism growing up powerfully into the brightly lit open sky. That is why I have drawn in a felt structure of the space within the sky behind the tree. I am pleased with the result. I believe one can get a good idea of the size of this tree from the drawing something that is not easy to express with an image without an obvious comparative element, such as an adult person standing next to the tree.
