This image is trying to express the clear exotic sounds of beautiful bird-calls in the early night, being heard at home - from a Willy Wag-tail, and a Blackbird. On rare occasions, Magpies will warble beautifully very late at night. Their warble will also have a nice echo, as if it is being produced within a large gorge, rather than on telephone wires high above a suburban street.
I enjoy trying to express senses other than vision, such as sounds or smells, through combinations of visual elements. It’s an exciting form of abstraction, reaching deeper into my imagination and feelings perhaps than a visual record. Certainly, in most of my paintings and drawings, I’m trying to express non-visual elements as well as a visually perceived record (usually the visually perceived record is dominant however).
