I have painted many different night skies, all trying to achieve the same type of purpose - to express the openness or space that is felt, the vastness, the mystery within the stars, the coldness, and the quiet joy of feeling the reality within the open night sky. This painting has probably come closest to me achieving the expression of those things. The red strip across the top is meant to supply a more obvious expression of the sense of excitement I feel with an open night sky, and it also helps to sit the deep blue next to it into the deep distance.
