This was actually a small tree that had recently died, the leaves going a lovely golden colour. I started a similar painting a few months earlier with a sensational tree that had also died, but had been growing from the footpath area of a quiet street. I started the painting one morning, and achieved a good layout of an accurate drawing and areas of basic colour. The next day, the tree was gone, removed by the council, no doubt at the request of one of the local residents. To me it was such a shock. It was the most stunning tree in the street, a magnificent structure even though it was no longer alive. The tree was no longer green, so lets remove it quickly.
