Why prints?

Providing high quality prints of some of my artwork gives me a way of providing lower cost products for others to purchase. Most of my major drawings and paintings are very expensive, because of the time, management and development put into them. Typically, my major drawings/pastels require more than a month or two to produce, working on-site.

For example, "Inner Strength - Moreton Bay Fig", which was entered in "The Waterhouse Art Prize" (and won 3rd place in its category), took me about two months of full time work to complete. It required an enormous amount of management and discipline to transport quite a large drawing to the site completely unprotected (laying any sheet of paper over the drawing would remove and damage the fragile charcoal work), day after day, to work directly from the subject. As a result, I've priced my original drawing at $5,000 (if bought directly from me - i.e. 2 months being a 6th of a $30,000 a year salary that I might otherwise have earnt from non-specialised skills). If bought through a gallery the price has to increase to reflect the commission that the gallery charges (typically around 35-50% of the sale price and pushing the price to something like $7,692-$10,000).

From my major drawings, I would like to offer signed, high quality prints at much more affordable prices.

For example:

A signed high quality print on A3 paper, including postage: $140

A signed high quality print on 60 cm x 80 cm paper (typically full-sized), including postage: $270

These prices do not include framing. They are posted out rolled up in mailing cylinders. The prints, like most of my drawings, need to be framed behind glass, typically with a surrounding matte. Most professional framers will be able to offer advice on framing these prints.

About the Prints

The prints I want to offer are special Giclee artwork prints, produced by a professional photographic processing lab, on high quality acid-free paper. The inks, paper and processing are rated as having 75 year archival quality.

I prepare the files for printing. I photograph the artwork in sections, using a high quality digital SLR camera and a special copying stand. I compile the sections into one large digital photograph of the artwork, and balance the colours and tones to match the original, using a colour profile supplied by the photographic lab. I then get the lab to proof the files, before making final adjustments to the files ready for final printing.

I will only allow high quality accurate prints for sale. If the prints are not true reproductions to the originals, they will not be offered for sale. If my signature is already part of the original drawing, I will sign the high quality prints on their backs.

Payment options:

Prints can be paid for by mailing a cheque or a money order (typically available through post offices), in Australian currency, to my postal address. Products will be mailed out as soon as possible (usually within a week) after the cheque has cleared in my account. The prints often require about 10 days for the photographic laboratory to produce. Please email me to get my postal address, and confirm all details of the intended purchase.

What protection do you have?

  1. You are protected by Australian consumer laws.

  2. I will return a full refund of money received (in Australian currency) if you are not satisfied with the product received, if:

    2. The product is returned as soon as possible.

    3. The product has not been copied in any way - a declaration will need to be signed.

    4. The product has not been damaged by the buyer. (I understand that the print may get damaged during the postal delivery, and I will only ever expect to see evidence of such damage - please see Point 3, below).

  3. If the print has been damaged during the postal delivery, I will send out a replacement print at no extra charge, provided the conditions in protection "2." (above) are met.
